Government programs

National Disability Insurance Scheme
Australia's newly established national disability insurance scheme provides individualised planning processes and referrals to support those with disabilities and their carers.

Australian Government Positive Partnerships Initiative
This initiative aims to build partnerships between schools and families to improve the educational outcomes of students with autism spectrum disorder. The website contains information on workshops and information sessions and provides on-line learning. Their Positive Partnerships Planning Matrix provides a tool for profiling the strengths and needs of students with autism.

Cooperative Research Centre in Autism
Located at the University of Queensland, the Autism CRC aims conducts research on early diagnosis, providing optimum educational environments and improving the transition to post school life.

Autism CRC Health Hub A directory of online health and wellbeing resources for adults with ASD

National Disability Organisations Clearninghouse
A government site where information from many disability organisations is gathered together in one place.

Raising Children Network

A parent run organisation based in Victoria. Provides information, support and advocacy. See their publication Through the Maze which provides a guide to finding appropriate services for your child.

Association for Positive Behaviour Support
The APBS guidelines on positve behaviour support are widely cited as being the standard in the disability field for the management of challenging behaviour.

Positive practice framework: A guide for behaviour support services practitioners
A 2011 publication of the Victorian Department of Human Services. This publication is a comprehensive resource and guide on positive behaviour support and presents a practice model which promotes a person-centred approach to responding to people with emerging or presenting behaviours of concern, using assessment and analysis of the meaning of behaviour for the person within a whole–of-life context. The resource includes assessment and monitoring tools.

Understanding school responses to students' challenging behaviour: A literature review by Samia Michail 2011
A publication of Unitingcare Children, Young People and Families, this literature review presents an analysis of the underlying philosophies of school responses to challenging behaviours. The author examines the efficacy of punitive, academic and therapeutic approaches and found them insufficient and presents a case for a holistic view of addressing the behaviour in context using an approach taylored to the child and why the behaviour exists.
